Research Projects

Our research department offers a wide range of primary and secondary research services to businesses and non-profit organizations in the Virgin Islands and beyond. BiZVI Research™ aims to operate in a flexible way. For your market research, you might require a full service approach i.e. including the initial proposal through to fieldwork and the delivery of results. Or you may need resources for a particular aspect of the market research project. Whichever you find fulfilling your need, our Market Research division   will be happy to fit in with your individual requirements.

We conduct Research Design, Project Management, Desk Research, Market Research Depth Interviews, Focus Groups, Market Research Questionnaire Design, Telephone and Face to Face Research Interviews, Internet Market Research, Market Research Company Analysis, Research compilation and presentation and an entire array of other related services.

BiZVI Research™ , the fourth division under BiZVI, LLC conducted over a dozen different research projects in 2006, mostly in the United States Virgin Islands, some of which are explained herewith:

July – December 2006, US Virgin Islands
School Health Index Assessment (SHI): Private School Department of
Health: Chronic Disease Prevention Program

Working as consultants for the Virgin Islands Department of Health Chronic Disease Prevention Program, BiZVI introduced, conducted, reported and evaluated this CDC developed & funded health assessment, among the private schools across the US Virgin Islands. The assessment is centered around the eight modules related to the school setting and focuses on helping the schools understand their strengths and weaknesses in those areas. Some of the modular areas are health and health related issues, psychological services available in schools, Nutrition services, Staff support services.

BiZVI’s role was to conduct the entire program on behalf of the Department of Health Chronic Disease Prevention Program (CDPP). Over a period of five months, BiZVI performed the following activities to accomplish the goals of the Assessment:

  1. Create and develop communication with the principals of private schools
  2. Introduce them to the goals & process of School Health Index
  3. Explain to them, their role and responsibility and gain their consent for participation of individual schools in the assessment
  4. Assist schools with concerns during the assessment
  5. Compile results of all private schools individually
  6. Compile and submit report for CDPP director that summarized the process and condensed the results and findings for chronological purposes.
The program was very successful. In fact BiZVI’s expertise and manner of carrying out the program was well received to the extent that BiZVI was hired in early 2007, to conduct a pilot program in the Public Schools in 2007.

January – May 2007, US Virgin Islands
School Health Index Assessment (SHI): Public Schools Department of
Health: Chronic Disease Prevention Program

BiZVI Research™ conducted the School Health Index Assessment in the public schools across the Virgin Islands. Since the dynamics in decision making for public schools are more difficult and less independent, it was considered more beneficial to conduct a pilot program in the public schools versus having all the schools in the islands participate. Therefore, the pilot program was conducted to understand the impact of the assessment on public schools. With participation from ten(10) schools across the US Virgin Islands, the program was finished successfully. Reports, analysis and compiled results have been submitted and the program has reached a successful closing.

October – November 2006, US Virgin Islands
Organizational Assessment of Cultural Competence  Frederiksted Health
Clinic & Charles Harwood Clinic

An Organizational Assessment for Cultural Competence is an assessment conducted by organizations in general, and health care organizations in particular, usually to achieve the following purposes:

  • Understand to what extent, the organization is well equipped to serve patients/clients with different cultural backgrounds and needs
  • Assess the organization’s understanding of cultural differences among staff members
  • Understand whether the organization has policies on multiculturalism, racism, harassment and discrimination that extend to clients and which have been implemented
  • Know if the policies that should be shared with clients are available in different languages
  • Know whether policies are translated into procedures, which are reviewed for consistency with policy
  • A range of culturally appropriate service delivery models are planned, developed and implemented.

BiZVI Research™ was hired by a local non-profit organization, to conduct an Organizational Assessment for Cultural Competence in two central health clinics on St. Croix: Charles Harwood Clinic in Christiansted & Frederiksted Health Clinic in Frederiksted. The cultural competence was conducted over a period of one month, since this was a time sensitive project. The activities in the assessment were:

  • Developing a survey for patients & a separate survey for clinic employees
  • Translating surveys into Spanish
  • Conducting surveys in the two clinics
  • Developing interview questions
  • Arranging for randomly selected patients and employees to participate in the interviews, also conducted in both Spanish & English
  • Reports were compiled, summarizing & analyzing the results of the surveys & interviews
  • Recommendations were made on the findings of the cultural competence
  • In the second phase, the findings and recommendations were shared with the respective clinics and training sessions were held with employees, to increase their understanding of the concept and how they will be able to do their part.
This project had a strict timeline of six(6) weeks of the start-up and we are proud to say that BiZVI Research™  was able to satisfy the requirements in the time frame given.

October 2004 – August 2006, US Virgin Islands
Social Marketing Campaign: Virgin Islands Perinatal, Inc.

One of the longer projects done by the BiZVI Research™ group, the social marketing campaign for a local non-profit organization VI Perinatal, Inc. , was very elaborate and strictly goal driven. The campaign design was the last step in this extensive project. It was centered around Diabetes & Hypertension and their relationship with poverty and no insurance. The milestones of the project are listed herewith:

  • Surveys were developed to gain information about the demographics of the target population which was limited to 16 districts of St. Croix
  • Over 1500 surveys conducted in poverty stricken areas, Stony Ground, Two Brothers, Estate Profit, to name a few
  • Information gleaned from surveys was used to randomly select persons that were invited to be part of carefully designed and facilitated focus groups. Four focus groups with different backgrounds and demographics were facilitated in different locations to get a good sampling and a diverse feedback
  • Results from the focus groups, interviews and surveys were analyzed, correlated and combined to find out the emotional, physical and financial barriers that limit patients from seeking medical care
  • The results were then tabulated and used to design and develop goal centered brochures, newspaper ads, posters and radio advertisements
  • These advertisements were spread out over a period of eight months and culminated with the a television campaign designed by an external organization.
The social marketing campaign was designed to increase the number of people that access medical care on a regular basis rather than go to a doctor when their medical conditions get out of hand. It was also designed to increase the number of patients that are currently part of the public insurance system. Posters for this campaign, “ Healthy Families Pass on Healthy Traditions” , was launched in the summer of 2007.

Tobacco Coalition of St. Croix Five Year Strategic Plan Facilitation

BiZVI Research™   assisted the Tobacco Coalition of St. Croix, in October 2006, in developing a five year strategic plan keeping in mind the goals and objectives impacting the St. Croix community. Our consultants provided the intermediary vision and support to the executive board members and helped in neutralizing the feedback received from all the members to ensure there is no deviation from the objectives. BiZVI Research™  was  invited in late 2007 to facilitate the meetings again, in an effort to proceed with the goals of the coalition..

June – July 2006, US Virgin Islands
Facilitation of Focus Groups Department of
Health: Maternal & Child Health (MCH)

The department of Health, Maternal & Child Health (MCH) division contacted BiZVI to facilitate their series of focus groups in July 2006. The questions and discussion topics were set by MCH and our consultants ensured the accomplishment of the goals that were required by MCH. BiZVI’s expertise was employed therefore, to help the organization in understanding the needs and requirements of their clients. This was a relatively short project but one that helped the department position itself effectively among its target clients.

When I reached the point of
deciding what options I would consider in continuing the further development of the web sites that I had initiated, I realized that my with the level of my learning curve it would either mean that I would need to take courses in web site development or hire someone to do it for me.  I started my first web site in 1997.  From that time I always saw some things on websites that I was unable to integrate in my web sites because
of the limitation of my skills.  More recently, I have been pressed to upgrade existing web sites that I have created or planned to initiate. Of all the options that I have considered, the service that BiZ VI offered and subsequently provided has more than met my needs.  The most significant, in addition to the state-of-the art web sites they produce, is the way the people, the
management and staff, make me comfortable with limitations I might have about certain aspects of the technology that goes into designing web sites; how flexible they are with helping me find a solution to finance my projects and the support service that goes along with.  All my experiences have been totally positive in dealing with BiZ VI.

BiZVI came to us offering their services to our artist members to join their shopping mall. We quickly saw that perhaps they would consider building our website. We liked their professional and marketing approach and pretty soon we began the partnership of building our web pages. We were not very knowledgeable of the technical aspects but because of BiZVI's patience and expertise in the field, today we have a great site that they have taught us to manage for ourselves. Thanks BiZVI for a wonderful team of workers.
